Network

Changing the server's IP address or gateway also changes the path to the management panel: a wrong address, a wrong prefix or an unreachable gateway can make the panel and the email flow unreachable at once. Correcting such a mistake usually requires access to the server console.

The Network tab manages this risk with a confirmation step. The setting you save is first applied temporarily; your browser is redirected to the new address, and you are expected to confirm the change from the new address within 60 seconds. If no confirmation arrives (for example, because your browser cannot reach the new address), the server returns to the previous setting on its own. This way a faulty setting does not cut off management access permanently.

The Network screen is reached from Management → System → Network. The tab is visible only to users with the Global Admin role.

Scope and Limits

  • Only IPv4 settings are managed: IPv4 address, Prefix and Gateway.
  • DNS servers are managed not on this tab but on the DNS tab (see System).
  • The change is applied to the network connection that carries the server's route to the internet; the name of this connection is shown in the Interface field and is not selected here.
  • If the address is currently obtained via DHCP, it is set as a static address when you save.
  • The IP address cannot be changed while the server is in a Multi-Server pairing (see When a Change Is Blocked).

What's on the Screen

The screen has two columns: on the left the Network Settings card where you make the change, on the right the server's current network status and the traffic chart.

Network Settings

FieldWhat it tells you
InterfaceThe network connection the setting is applied to. Read-only.
MethodHow the address is currently defined: Static (manual), DHCP or Other. Read-only.
IPv4 addressThe server's new IPv4 address.
PrefixThe size of the subnet; it must be between 8 and 30. Directly below it, the Subnet mask and Network address corresponding to this value are shown.
GatewayThe address the server uses to leave its network. It must be inside the same subnet as the IPv4 address.

When you change a field, the form checks the input before saving and writes the reason under the invalid field; for example Gateway must be inside the … network., Gateway cannot be the same as the IP address. or Network or broadcast address cannot be used. Save cannot be used while a field is invalid.

When you make a change, a note below the form explains what will happen: if the IP address changes, On save, the browser is redirected to the new address; if not confirmed within 60 s, the previous setting is restored.; if only the prefix or gateway changes, On save, the confirmation page opens; if not confirmed within 60 s, the previous setting is restored. If the address is obtained via DHCP, the warning On save, the address is set as static instead of DHCP. also appears.

Current Status

Shows the current state of the server's network connection. The badges in the heading show the link state (Connected, No link or Link state unknown), how the address is defined (Static or DHCP) and, if the address is a private network address, Private IP.

Below them are Interface, Connection name, IPv4 address, Subnet mask, Gateway, MAC address and Link speed. If more than one address is defined on the connection, the others are listed in the Additional addresses row.

If the server's address is a private network address (the server is behind NAT), the address it uses to reach the internet is also shown in the Public IP row, together with the time of the last check. With the button next to the row (Query public IP again) you can query this address again immediately. When the public IP cannot be detected, or the detected address is not a valid public internet address, the value appears as Not verified.

Network Traffic — last 2 hours

Draws the Incoming and Outgoing traffic passing through the server's network connection over the last 2 hours, as the amount of data per second. The name of the measured connection and the measurement interval appear next to the heading; the most recently measured incoming and outgoing values appear above the chart. Measurements are taken once a minute, so after the initial installation or an update the chart starts with No traffic data yet. and fills up over time. When the server is restarted, that interval may appear as a gap in the chart.

Changing the IP Address or Gateway

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in with the Global Admin role.
  • The server must not be in a Multi-Server pairing.
  • The new IP address must be reachable from your own computer's browser. If the new address is on a different network, or a firewall in between blocks access to it, the change cannot be confirmed and the server returns to the previous setting after 60 seconds.
  • The new IP address must not be in use by another device on the network; the system checks this when you save.

Steps

  1. Open Management → System → Network.
  2. Edit whichever of the IPv4 address, Prefix and Gateway fields you want to change. Read the note below the form.
  3. Click the Save button that appears.
  4. A progress view replaces the form: the Applying setting, Setting applied, Waiting for the new address and Confirm at the new address steps, with a countdown of the remaining time. If the IP address changes, the browser is redirected to the confirmation page at the new address on its own once the old address stops responding (within 15 seconds at the latest).
  5. On the confirmation page, the new IPv4 address, Gateway and Public IP appear under the heading Connected at the new address, together with the remaining time. Check the details and click Confirm.

Verification — how to know it worked

  • The confirmation page shows the heading Network setting saved and the message The server is running at ….; you can switch to the panel with Go to panel.
  • The new address and gateway appear on the Current Status card.
  • A Network setting: change confirmed record is created on the Audit Logs screen.
caution

The single-use confirmation link that makes the redirect possible is known only on the page where you started the change. Do not refresh or close the page after saving; if you refresh it, the progress view continues but the confirmation link is not shown, and the change is reverted after 60 seconds. If the redirect does not happen, use the link in the If the redirect does not happen, open this link: line of the progress view; you can copy the link with the button next to it.

note

When the IP address changes, the confirmation page opens at a new address where your language choice is not known, so it is shown in Turkish. The headings and buttons on that page correspond to the labels in this section: Bağlantı yeni adreste kuruldu (Connected at the new address), Onayla (Confirm), Eski ayara dön (Restore previous setting), Ağ ayarı kaydedildi (Network setting saved) and Panele git (Go to panel). At the new address the browser may also show a certificate warning, because the panel's certificate may not have been issued for the new IP address. In that case continue to the site past the warning; the progress view points this out with the note If the browser shows a certificate warning, continue to the site.

Warnings on the confirmation page

  • The gateway could not be reached. Check connectivity before confirming. — The server cannot reach the new gateway. In this case the server may not be able to reach the internet or to send and receive email. If you are not sure about the gateway address, click Restore previous setting instead of confirming.
  • Public IP changed. Update the domain's DNS A, PTR and SPF records. — The address the server uses to reach the internet has changed. Update your domain's A and SPF records and the PTR record at your service provider for the new address; otherwise the email you send may be rejected or marked as spam on the receiving side. The Check Tools link in the warning opens the screen where you can check these records (see Health Tools). If the public IP has not changed (for example, only the internal address changed behind NAT), this warning is not shown.
  • Public IP could not be verified. — The public IP could not be queried from the new address. This does not block anything; after confirming, you can query it again from the Current Status card.

After confirmation, DeepFilter updates the server's own name record with the new IP address and queries the public IP again; the Blacklist (RBL) Monitor checks are made over this address. If one of these steps cannot be completed, the confirmation page shows the warning Some related settings could not be updated; check the system logs.; the network setting has been saved regardless.

Restoring the Previous Setting

A change does not become permanent unless it is confirmed. The previous setting is restored in three ways:

  • Restore previous setting on the confirmation page — The server returns to the old address within a few seconds; the confirmation page shows Restoring the previous setting and the old address.
  • No confirmation within 60 seconds — The server returns to the previous setting on its own.
  • The server restarts while a confirmation is pending — The previous setting is in effect when the server comes back up.

When the previous setting is restored, a notice stating the reason appears at the top of the Network tab for 10 minutes; for example The change was not confirmed within 60 s; the previous setting was restored. or The previous setting was restored because the server restarted. A Network setting: change reverted or Network setting: change automatically reverted record is created in the Audit Logs.

caution

If the notice says The previous setting could not be restored; check from the server console., the server's network setting may not be in the expected state. Access the server console, check the network setting and contact the support team if necessary.

The confirmation link is single-use. When you open a link that has already been used or has expired, the Link is invalid page appears; sign in to the panel at its known address. If the confirmation page cannot reach the server, The result could not be verified and a Try again button are shown.

When a Change Is Blocked

In the following situations the form cannot be used and the reason is written at the top of the Network tab. Every blocked attempt is recorded in the Audit Logs as Network setting: change blocked.

NoticeWhat to do
The IP address cannot be changed while the server is in a multi-server pairing.A pairing is established with the IP addresses the servers had at the time of pairing. In order: Remove the pairings in the Multi-Server tab. → Change the IP address. → Pair the servers again. The Go to the Multi-Server tab button in the notice takes you there directly (see Multi-Server).
The IP address cannot be changed while a multi-server pairing is in progress.Wait for the pairing in progress to complete or be cancelled.
The network setting cannot be changed here because no default route was found. The server's route to the internet is not defined. Make the network setting from the server console.
The network setting cannot be changed here because the interface is not managed by NetworkManager. The server's network connection is defined outside the operating system's network manager. Make the network setting from the server console.
The network setting cannot be changed here because the interface addressing method is not supported. The address is defined with a method other than static or DHCP. Make the network setting from the server console.
The network setting cannot be changed here because the current address configuration (/31, /32 or an off-subnet gateway) is not supported. These configurations are not managed from the Network tab. Make the network setting from the server console.
The previous revert is incomplete; no changes can be made until NetworkManager restores the previous setting.Restoring the previous change has not finished yet. Wait a while and refresh the page; if the situation persists, check the network setting from the server console.

A new change cannot be started while a change is awaiting confirmation; first wait for the pending change to be confirmed or reverted.

Troubleshooting

  • The browser was not redirected to the new address after Save. Open the link in the If the redirect does not happen, open this link: line of the progress view. If the new address does not open, your computer cannot reach that address (different network, firewall); in that case the change cannot be confirmed and the server returns to the previous setting after 60 seconds. Retry the change once access is in place.
  • The notice "The setting may have been applied; if not confirmed within 60 s, the previous address is restored." appeared. No response was received to the save request; the setting may have been applied on the server. Try opening the new address in your browser; if no confirmation is given, the server returns to the old address and you can reach the panel at the old address.
  • "This IP address is used by another device on the network." The address you entered is in use on the network; a conflict breaks access to both the server and that device. Choose a free address.
  • "No DNS server found; first define DNS servers in the DNS tab." No DNS resolver is defined on the server. First define and save the resolvers on the DNS tab, then retry the network change.
  • "Another network operation is in progress; try again shortly." or "Too many attempts; try again shortly." Wait a short while and try again.
  • "The network connection changed; reload the page and try again." The server's network connection changed after the page was opened. Refresh the page and enter the values again.
  • Public IP shows "Not verified" on the Current Status card. The public IP query did not respond or returned an address that is not valid on the internet; this can happen in NAT setups where your gateway routes the query back into the internal network. Make sure your firewall allows access to the IP detection service (ip.deepfilter.io) and try again with the Query public IP again button.
  • The Network Traffic chart is empty. Measurements are taken once a minute; right after an update or installation the chart starts with No traffic data yet. Check again after a few minutes.
  • The Network tab does not appear on the System screen. The tab is visible only to users with the Global Admin role.
